The most famous celebrities are adored for their good looks – big eyes, luscious lips, a roundish forehead, glossy tresses and a sharp nose coming harmoniously together on a flawless canvas. The nose, in particular, starting between the eyes is part of the focal point of our faces, so it follows that the morphology of our noses is important. The asian nose, in particular in Southeast Asia, is often less-than perfect looking – those with flat bridges and bulbous, round nose tips are left desiring something more lifted, sharper and more defined. There are so many ways to make the nose look more perfect. Obviously there is plastic surgery and there is also makeup. But there is the stigmata of going under the knife and changing one’s looks forever, and on the other hand, there isn’t as much appeal with using makeup. And this is exactly why the non-surgical nose job is probably one of the most commonly requested filler procedures done in Singapore today. It gives one the chance Continue Reading
My Quest for a Sharper Nose without Surgery
BY LISA WILLIAMS Though my nose is perfectly straight and sits well proportioned on my face, the somewhat bovine curve at the bottom bothered me. Not the curve, per se, but a childhood memory related to it. When I was about six, my mother casually mentioned my nose looked like Miss Piggy’s—which, in itself, is not a bad thing to say except no woman wants to grow up to resemble a porcine cartoon character. A few months later, forgetting all about her comment and the fact that I have a spectacular memory, she said, “Miss Piggy has a really ugly nose.” This caused an unintentional scar that remained on my psyche; I would never pose for pictures in profile. I was convinced it wasn’t my best face forward. However, I am a real coward when it comes to surgery. The furthest I have gone in my foray into the medical world was a blood test for my annual health screen. Hence, my dilemma. Jumping into the deep end When I found Continue Reading
Nose Lift: What’s it really like to get nose fillers
BY LISA WILLIAMS Three years ago, the Internet freaked out over the idea of five-minute nonsurgical nose jobs. In a local magazine article, a woman recounted her tale—complete with photographic proof—of walking into a plastic surgeon’s office, getting the noninvasive nose-perfecting procedure done, and then heading directly from his office to dinner with her friends. Instead of going the traditional surgical route, she’d had her surgeon inject thousands of dollars worth of fillers into her face to straighten out the slope of her nose. Nowadays, fillers for the nose (as well as any part of the face, neck, hands) has become more commonplace. Some statistics have even shown it to be more popular than rhinoplasty surgeries. We found out more from Dr. Low Chai Ling, who has been using dermal fillers not only to give patients a higher nose bridge but also to “photoshop” imperfections such as depressions or a bump on the nose away. First things first: The “multi microdroplet technique,” as Dr Low calls it, is used mainly Continue Reading
Botox Or Fillers: Which Is For You?
Botox and fillers have been around for years but we learnt that the difference between the 2 are not always immediately clear. So we’ve put together a guide to explain the differences between them so that you can work out which you would likely prefer to have. Of course you should always consult with an experienced injector and discuss which (or both) is more suitable for the improvements you want to make! Botox Vs Fillers Botox (or Botulinum toxin) is a solution that is injected in very small, measured doses into specific facial muscles. By blocking nerve signals in the injected muscle(s), the resulting effect is temporary paralysis i.e. movement of these muscles of the face are restricted, resulting in softening or even disappearance of wrinkles. A typical Botox injection of smaller muscles such as those in the forehead, or outside the eyes last approximately 3 to 4 months. Obviously the higher the dose, the more long-lasting the treatment, but also the more “frozen” the look! Botox is Continue Reading
Is The Non-Surgical Nose Job For You?
When it comes to enhancement of the nose, there are essentially two options— surgical and non-surgical. If you are opting for the surgical route, you are talking about rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is surgery to reshape the nose. It can make the nose larger or smaller; change the angle of the nose in relation to the upper lip; alter the tip of the nose; or correct bumps, indentations, or other defects in the nose. During rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes incisions to access the bones and cartilage that support the nose. Depending on the desired result, some bone and cartilage may be removed, or tissue may be added (either from another part of the body or using a synthetic filler). A splint is placed outside the nose to support the new shape of the nose as it heals. If you, like many others, do not like the idea of invasive surgery, you can consider non-surgical options of augmenting your nose. The non-surgical Rhinoplasty, or non-surgical nose job as it is Continue Reading
