How Fillers Can Give An Unnatural Look

A mild facelift effect is now possible without having to go under the knife, thanks to the invention of dermal fillers. Usually made up of hyaluronic acid, a natural compound found in our own body, fillers have become quick fixes for restoring volume due to fat or bony loss, and erasing fine lines and wrinkles due to aging. Younger people who are not satisfied with the way they look are also turning to fillers first rather than surgery to improve certain less-than-perfect features, such as adding height to a flat nose bridge, augmenting a weak chin, filling up sunken undereye hollows or thin lips. Some dermal fillers can even be injected superficially into skin, to improve hydration for the smooth, dewy look. But things can go wrong when correction becomes overzealous, or if the wrong filler was used in the wrong area. In this article, we speak to Dr Michelle Lim from The SW1 Clinic, and give you the inside scoop on major filler no-go’s to help you navigate through Continue Reading

Do You Have Chin Envy?

Is your chin giving others a weak impression of you?   In the world of boxing, a fighter’s chin is a term that refers to the ability to withstand trauma to the chin or jaw without being knocked unconscious. Terms like Rocky Balboa’s ‘granite chin’ and being able to ‘take it on the chin’ imply strength and resilience. Superheroes such as Captain America Chris Evans and Superman or Man From U.N.C.L.E Henry Cavill look like they have chins forged from steel. So do some others, such as George Clooney and Brad Pitt, or world’s hottest felon, convict-turned model Jeremy Meeks.     From an aesthetic standpoint, the chin frames the lower face and is a prominent facial feature, yet it is frequently neglected. While it doesn’t strike most people as important, a short or weak chin makes the whole face seem flat and incomplete. Good chins provide facial definition, makes one appear slimmer, gives one’s face character and is definitely a must-have for an attractive (and dare we say, sexy) Continue Reading

I Tried It! – How Fillers Took 10 Years Off My Face In 30 Minutes

BY LISA WILLIAMS   At some point, it’s hard to ignore the vivid signs of ageing I see in the mirror. I always felt that my face could be sharper and more V-shaped, but I’ve noticed my face has become more “bottom heavy” and saggy in the past year. My eyes look so dull and permanently tired, it makes me look listless and older than my actual age despite all the eye serums and facials I’ve tried. Perhaps more than anything else, I’m most affected when people say I look older than my husband. With my birthday coming next month, I’ve finally plucked up enough courage to dip my toes into unchartered waters – FILLERS to lift my face! I know that I don’t want anything invasive but I know I am ready for any sort of non-surgical facelift (if there is such a thing)! I’ve chosen to go to SW1 Clinic at my friend’s recommendation.   More importantly,  one of my close friends have been there before and I’ve heard great things about Continue Reading
