I Looked Better After Giving Birth And Science May Be The Reason

Well, I might have lied a little. I hated my body postpartum. Having gained a massive 20 kilograms during each of my 2 pregnancies, I didn’t fit well into my regular clothes anymore, even though theoretically I should, since I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. My skin was dull-looking after I stopped breastfeeding, but the worst was losing so much hair so quickly. 6 months and several treatments later, I am finally back! Here’s what I did.   1. GLOW ON Thanks to post-pregnancy hormones, sleep deprivation and absolutely no time for taking care of my skin, I got the new-mum dull and grey complexion. Surprisingly, there are not many skin treatments tailored for pregnant and new mums, but I found my gem at the SW1 Clinic. Their Full Bloom program is designed to revive dull and lacklustre complexions with pregnancy and breast-feeding-safe treatments, such as the Sciton Forever Young BBL which revived my dull skin within one session!   2. SHAPING UP Pregnancy does change our body shape Continue Reading

Your Ultimate Hair Removal Guide For Better Skin

Have you imagined a day where you will never have to pluck, tweeze or shave again? If you are contemplating hair removal, here’s the ultimate hair removal guide to read before you proceed.   SOME AREAS RESPOND BETTER THAN OTHERS Laser hair removal works better in some areas than others so don’t expect your entire body to be rid of all unwanted strands or stubbles according to schedule. Apparently, it works best in areas of thinner skin with thicker hair. So if you are after hair underarms, or targeting the bikini line, going for the legs and arms, you are in luck!   IT DOESN’T WORK AT ALL FOR SOME PEOPLE If you are fair- skinned and have dark hair, chances are this will be a perfect treatment for you. Simply put, hair removal lasers target dark pigments, so unfortunately, people who have darker skin and dark hair will find it slightly harder to find success with this treatment. The gentleyag laser however, is safer for darker skin types and Continue Reading

The Plasma Eye Lift

Many people want youthful, firm skin around their eyes, but not many are willing to put themselves through surgery for that eye lift. But as long as there is the understanding that for many cases of these lid droopiness, something needs to be done, it’s already a good start. Apparently, there are treatments that can tighten periorbital skin that don’t require needles, or burn a hole through your wallet. One of these newest non-invasive treatments is the Neogen Plasma Eyelift. Traditional lasers and light-based technologies require a chromophore such as pigment, blood or water to work. Neogen provides a controlled, uniform heating across the whole skin without damaging the outermost layers. Deep dermal heating is achieved with this treatment, which we know stimulates collagen production, and at the same time, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, firming skin from the inside out. With the Neogen, plasma energy is the key. Touted as the fourth state of matter, plasma energy is converted from nitrogen gas and delivered in controlled, Continue Reading

5 Surprising Causes Of Dark Under-Eye Circles

Thought dark eye issues are because of a lack of sleep? Here are five real surprising reasons that most people don’t know of. We speak to Dr Michelle Lim of the SW1 Clinic to find out more.   1. A FAMILIAR ISSUE Dr Michelle says it’s not uncommon for her, once in a while, to sit in consultation with some families who suffer from the same eye shadowing problem. For some people with dark eye circles, all we can say is that it runs in the family – a matter of genetics. You are simply born with it. This trait is more common is certain ethnic groups. It could be the anatomical shape of the eye socket, usually more sunken than usual.   2. A SKIN-DEEP PROBLEM Dry and sore skin can be caused by skin conditions such as eczema, or eyelid allergic or contact dermatitis. These cause inflammation of the delicate skin around the eyes and this causes the skin to produce more melanin, the natural pigment in our Continue Reading

Here’s What Weekly Facials Did To My Skin

I have dull skin and for the longest time, I didn’t know what to do with it. I also have the kind of skin that breaks out cyclically. Despite a dedicated skincare routine, my skin never had that kind of fresh, out-of-shower glow and I struggled to make up for it by covering up with BB creams and facial highlighters. One day, I suffered a horrible breakout and decided that I needed to do something. Someone suggested a few weekly facials to manage my breakouts. Not that I need to do this on a long-term basis, but think of it as a sprint, or a skin detox or workout.   QUICK 30-MINUTE FACIALS ARE NOW A THING Facials these days don’t necessarily take forever to finish. Invented to cater to time-strapped individuals, I was really happy to find that these facials are not only light on time, they are also lighter on the wallet! Although less pampering compared to a full-length facial, some do include LED light therapy to address Continue Reading
