It’s that time of the year again! The beginning of another academic year for university students. Since you’ve read the title, I am assuming you are about to begin your university life. Feeling anxious? Here are some tips I have after 1 year of university life!
-
Choose your project mates properly
To some, project work is the best part of school. To others, it is the bane of their existence. You already won half the battle when you choose the correct groupmates. Otherwise, you’ll be growing a lot of white hair in your 4 years of university education if you have groupmates who contribute nothing but trouble. Lucky for you though, there is a new grey hair reversal treatment in town if you need it. You can enjoy the much-needed zen during the 30 comfortable and painless minutes of treatment while fixing the damage on your head. Submission deadlines are also usually cluttered near exam week, so you should try to start your projects earlier while you still have the luxury of time!

Have fun in university
University would probably be the last schooling experience for most people. Instead of burying your head in books, try engaging in multiple activities to maximise the fun you can get out of school. Join a CCA to meet like-minded people, be an orientation group leader or even join case competitions to gain experience, nothing is too small. The hustle culture is very popular now, but it can get toxic at times. Don’t force yourself to do something productive just to boost your resume. Having fun and having enough rest is crucial too. The last thing you want is to have burnouts and breakouts. Breakouts can be fixed by going for your trusty facial or by using your effective pimple products, but what about burnouts? You would need a long time to recuperate and recharge your energy. That is more time-consuming than taking breaks in between.

Do the module feedback surveys
Here’s an additional tip for NUS freshmen! You can ignore the dozens of emails that come in your school email daily, but do not ignore the module feedback surveys! These surveys help you rack up module feedback points that are important during module registration. Planning your timetable and bidding for modules is already painful enough. You wouldn’t want to go through this process more times than necessary. With more module feedback points, you would get higher priority when it comes to getting the modules you bid for. Thank me later when you manage to successfully bid for your modules!
Nothing can quite prepare you for the university, since it is a big jump from pre-tertiary institutions. The best you can do to prepare yourself for school is to be clear of the various channels where information is being disseminated and know your lecture theatres and modules well. As for the rest, you can handle it when it comes. Make the most out of your university experience despite the covid-19 situation! All the best for school!
