How Self-Quarantine Can Motivate You To Get More Fit

Let’s not deny it, more than half the world got thrown into self-quarantine and everyone affected has had to make adjustments to their routines. With gyms closed, and body sculpting services such as Coolshape, ONDA, and magnetic muscle sculpting halted until 1 June 2020, how do we stay fit while working from home?

We are no Zoe Kravitz, who is continuing her training at home at least 5 times a week to play Catwoman in the upcoming Batman movie, but we can be inspired to stay in shape during self-isolation. If you are worried about weight gain because you are stuck working at home and all the gyms are currently closed, here are some home workouts you can try.

AT HOME WORKOUTS

If you haven’t heard of them yet, now’s the time to check out F45 Training, a network of group training studios offering high intensity functional workouts. Their at-home workouts are free until 1 June 2020, helping members and everyone else who is interested in trying out F45 to stay active during this self-quarantine period. No equipment is needed.

If you have a set of dumbbells, check out the SWEAT App, a personal training app which gives versatile workouts whether its HIIT, strength training, heavy lifting, cardio, and even boxing.

Most of these workouts are equipment-free, but some basic equipment worth getting are:

– dumbbells

– yoga mat

– jump ropes

EATING HEALTHY

Social distancing restrictions forcing closure of bars and prohibiting dining in at your favourite restaurants means you get to do what you couldn’t do before – plan your meals!

There is no better time to be strategic about the use of ingredients since we are all at home, so prioritize fresh produce, especially fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, over processed and high sugar foods. Working at home means you may have more time than before to prepare home-cooked meals. Many at-home workout apps also provide meal plans such as F45 Challenge and SWEAT.

You can also allocate more appropriate food portions when you are cooking meals yourself, avoiding overeating, and also reduce salt, sugar and fat intake.
