Why Facial Hair Could Be Wrecking Your Complexion

We all have varying degrees of facial hair and irritation, ingrown hairs, acne, hair bumps can come into place whether one takes or doesn’t take the no-shave route. We all know something like smoking ruins your looks, but some tricky complexion situations can also be caused by something as harmless-looking and unassuming as facial hair.

Here’s why facial hair removal could be a good idea:

IT CAN EXACERBATE ACNE

Acne, in part, is casued by surging hormones known as androgens. Androgens stimulates oil glands in the skin to increase production of oily sebum. Facial hair collects dirt and debris, causing increases sensitivity to acne-producing bacteria, which clogs the pores and results in pimples.

THEY CAUSE RAZOR BUMPS

The best way to get rid of razor bumps is to not erm, not shave, at all. These bumps commonly appear after shaving. These appear because sometimes when a hair is cut off just at the surface of the skin, it can grow inwards and cause irritation to the hair follicle, swelling and developing into a reddish lump which resembles a pimple. Laser hair removal gets rid of hair permanently, and eliminates the need for shaving or other traditional methods of hair removal such as waxing.

IT CAN MAKE LARGE PORES LESS OBVIOUS

Pores contain hair follicles, and dermatologists are beginning to prescribe permanent hair removal treatments for clients asking for pore-minimizing treatments, before other skin treatments!

HOW LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORKS

Hair removal lasers such as the gold standard Gentlemax Pro targets the hair follicle at the root by emiting a light that is specifically absorbed by pigment in the hair. This results in damage that inhibits future hair growth.

Hair growth is various stages. Laser hair removal most effective in the active growth (Anagen) phase. Therefore a series of treatments are often required, rather than a single session.

According to Dr Michelle Lim, medical aesthetic consultant at the SW1 Clinic, which uses the Gentlemax Pro, laser hair removal is most effective for those who have dark hair and fair skin. But those with slightly darker skin types need not dismay, they may also be treated with a longer wavelength of the Gentlemax Pro safely.
