All you need to know about lash extensions

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are eyelashes that are attached to your own natural eyelashes using a semi-permanent adhesive to make your lash fringe look longer, fuller, and darker.

Types of lashes

Eyelash extensions come in different lengths, volumes, and curls. Due to different eye shapes and length, the lash artist usually customises the length, volume and curl of the lashes for each individual. For example, to achieve a wide-eyed effect, the lash artist will use longer lashes towards the outer corners of the eyes and shorter lashes in the inner corners.

Here is an eyelash extension guide showing the different lengths, volumes (thickness) and curls of the eyelashes.

How to take care of eyelash extensions?

Due to the nature of the lash adhesive, customers are advised not to apply any oil-based makeup or use any oil-based makeup remover around the eyes. This will prevent the synthetic lashes from falling off your natural lashes.

Here is an example of the aftercare instructions that lash artists usually give to their customers.

How long does the lash extensions last?

A full set of lash extensions will last as long as an individual’s natural lash cycle, which is usually anywhere between 4-6 weeks, depending on the individual. To maintain the lash extensions, customers are recommended to get touch ups or infills after 3 to 4 weeks. In an infill appointment, lash artists will replace fallen extensions with brand new ones.

If you follow the aftercare instructions, your extensions will last longer (i.e. remove makeup correctly, don’t wear mascara, avoid oily products on your face, and avoid tugging/pulling at your eyelash extensions).
