For many people, if asked whether they would ever consider plastic surgery, the answer would be a firm “no”. But not everyone refuses plastic surgery because they are advocates of self-love – most of the time the scary stories of downtime or looking too “different” from their old selves are the reasons why. Not surprisingly, tweaking (as opposed to surgically changing) one’s appearance is much more widely accepted. One of the most common facial tweakments seen in this part of the world is the non-surgical nose job. The best thing about nose “tweakments” is that it usually looks like an enhancement of one’s own nose – just sharper or more defined.
TYPES OF NON-SURGICAL NOSE JOBS
If you are completely new to this, the non-surgical nose job usually refers to nose fillers, or nose threadlift. The nose filler procedure augments the nose with dermal fillers, most commonly the hyaluronic acid filler with a consistency or hardness capable of lifting the nose bridge. Small injections at various parts of the base of the nose can also improve the nasolabial angle (i.e. turning up the nose a little) and even give the illusion of a sharper nose tip, albeit to a much subtler effect compared to the surgical nose job. Nose fillers last approximately 9 to 18 months, depending on the type of filler used.
Similarly, a nose threadlift makes subtle improvements to the height of the nose bridge and refines the tip, but with biocompatible “threads”. These are often PDO (polydioxanone) threads, which have small barbs for a lifting effect. Several threads are inserted each time depending on how much lift is desired. The Infinity Nose Lift give a more slender nose bridge than most nose filler jobs do (and you can see why this is popular with the Asian Chinese and in Korea and Japan).
THE LOW-DOWN ON NON-SURGICAL NOSE JOBS
So you have 2 ways of improving the appearance of your nose without surgery, which should you choose? Here are some of the main differences to consider:
- You May Not Be Suitable For One Of Them
If you have a hump on your nose, or a crooked nose, you will need filling in of the gap with nose fillers instead of threads. On the other hand, someone with a broad nose will not do well with nose fillers. For this group of people, nose threads will have a more effective lifting effect.
- Nose Threads Have Slightly More Downtime
That’s right. It is non-surgical but nose threads often have a very minor downtime compared to nose fillers, because the latter is usually done with very small pinpricks whereas in the case of nose threads, the nose tip often takes the brunt of a larger needle which introduces the threads. This doesn’t deter people from doing nose threads that much usually, just that it requires a little bit more forward planning.
- Nose Threads Are Not As Easily Reversible As Fillers
The best thing about using fillers is that it can be readily dissolved with a simple injection, a real life-saver if you don’t like your new nose, or in very rare cases when filler is injected into a blood vessel (a risk that threads do not have). That said, nose fillers can migrate along the sides of the nose, giving a broadening effect. Hence nose threads are popular because of the sharp and more well-defined bridge.
- You Can Do Both Nose Fillers And Nose Threads
In some noses where a broadening effect is likely, nose fillers may be combined with nose threads for a more appealing and natural result. This often creates more lift as well. In the 3D noselift, fillers may be placed inside the corner of the brows and tapering to the start of the nose bridge, so that the newly augmented bridge looks a whole lot more natural, very much like contouring the nose!
So, filler, threads, or both?
