You probably know what you can eat for a healthier-looking complexion, but so you know what you can put on your face for that coverted glow? Say hello to DIY face masks!
And this is important information, since the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown all our routines into chaos, and by this time of isolation, many of us might be noticing some not-so-welcome skin dullness. Well guess what? You might just be able to find that some of the most nutritious foods in your kitchen could well work for the face. From everything from facial scrubs to DIY masks. Here are 3 easy and safe DIY recipes to try.
1. TURMERIC
This bright yellow spice has always done way more than make curry dishes stand out. Its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and astringent properties is great for problem skin when applied to it – think anti-aging. It is also able to brighten the skin and fade pigmentation and acne scars. To make it into a mask, combine 1 teaspoon of turmeric power to 3 tablespoons of milk and 1 tablespoon of rice flour. The rice flour helps make it into a paste, and milk contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid with skin brightening and anti-aging properties. Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes and remember to wash off thoroughly, as tumeric may stain the skin yellow/orange if left on for too long. For exceptional results, try adding 4 or 5 drops of a low-to-moderate-strengthed bespoke peel to the mask.
2. GREEN TEA
Another glow-getting DIY mask to make is a green tea face mask. Green tea is rich in anti-oxidants, which are important for protecting the skin from inflammation and aging. It is also calming, hence great for redness. To make a green tea face mask, add 1 teaspoon of green tea powder to water to form a creamy paste which can be applied to the face. You can also use unsweetened yogurt or milk instead.
3. RED WINE
YES. Rather than chuck that extra vino away, use it for your DIY face mask. Red wine contains resveratrol, a great anti-oxidant to prevent signs of aging. The alcohol acts as an astringent too! Simple add a teaspoon or 2 of red wine to your mask and let it do its magic!
